About Australian Financial Advocacy Services (AFAS)
The founders of AFAS have been in the financial planning industry since 1980. While providing advice, they kept getting referrals from existing clients and strategic partners to help their friends who were in dire financial stress due to bad advice from their advisers. They did what they could however, their license limited what they were allowed to do for these clients. Assistance to help these clients was few and far between and like normal lawyers charging very high fees. The last straw was a client who had clearly been taken advantage of by their adviser and appear they may lose all of their retirement savings and left with a massive debt. Their solicitors said there was nothing they can do and the responsible entity (AFSL: entity responsible for the adviser's advice) decided to believe the adviser's misleading and deceptive version of events. So AFAS founders decided the only way to help these clients was to start an advocacy service using their in-depth understanding of the financial planning processes. They were able to assist the client to lodge a new complaint with AFCA and ASIC with a positive compensation outcome for the client. AFAS's aim is to assist client's claiming compensation for their financial loss in a low stress process with affordable and reasonable fees. This is how AFAS begun, with a basic need to help clients seek a fair and reasonable compensation for bad advice. To Empower them to fight for their rights and Restore a Peace of Mind for their future with the right outcome.
